Tip #1 on how to survive college.

College is a very scary place especially going in your freshmen year or transferring to a different college. It’s like starting your life all over again. You have to make new friends, you have to find your way around to your classes, and you have to meet all your new professors. It’s a very scary start of a new chapter in life but I promise you will survive this new journey as long as you stick with it.
My first tip to you is to get close with all your professors. I went to a smaller private university where all my professors knew all their students by name. This was very nice because for one a lot of colleges and universities have class sizes as big as 300 students. You may think if you go to a bigger college or university that you can just go to class and pass your classes. Some people can do that but if I am being completely honest your professors are not going to care if you show up to class or not. They probably don't even know your name.
By getting close with your professor's it gives you an advantage. It shows them that you care. They will know you on a more personal level and they will notice if you’re not in class. Which you’re probably thinking if I skip class that’s not a good thing. Yes, that is true but most of the time you cannot afford to miss class anyway and if you shoot them a quick email telling them why you’re not in class they are going to more than willing to help you get the material you missed in class that day if you know your professor on a personal level. Also, if you are struggling in a certain class most professor's if you go to them and be honest with them and just tell them that you are struggling they will work with you one on one.
Getting to know your professor can also help you with job opportunities. After college you’re going to need a lot of references for your resume. If you get to know your professor's and show them how hardworking you were as a student, they will be a great reference. Getting to know your professor's is a major part of surviving college. They are there to help you. However, that being said they are not going to help you if you do not help yourself. Do not be scared to ask questions in class and if you do not want to ask the question in front of the whole class go after class and ask them. They will help you as much as you need it as long as you show them you care. One last thing, do not be scared to talk to them they want you to succeed as much as you want to however, the first set is you helping yourself.
