Tip #10 College is What You Make It!

My last time for you when surviving college is to make college whatever you want it to be. If you want to go to college and be a completely different person than who you were in high school than do it because nobody is going to know you at college. If you want to go out and party every weekend, then do it. If you want to stay in your room and study everyday because you just want to get the next four yours over with then do it. College is definitely what you make it.

Make as many friends as you possibly can because you’re going to have them for the rest of your life. Make memories that will last a lifetime. However, make smart decisions because one mess up can stick with you for the rest of your life. Also make sure your putting your school work first because after all you’re going to college to make a future.

Live the best life you can in the next four years or however many you have left. You only get to experience the college life once so live it up while you can. Make your own decisions and become the person you want to become. This is the moment your gong to truly find yourself.

College is also a big learning curve. Everything is different in college and it Is more than likely the first time your going to be on your own. I promise you will get through it. College is not as big and scary as everybody puts it out to be. You’re going to choose the right college, our going to choose the right major, and your going to make it through Yes, you’re going to have set backs everybody does but your going to get through them.

If college takes you longer than four years, then that is okay. Most people do not finish in four years anyway. Take your time with school, nobody is in a hurry to move on to the real world anyway. The real world means all the fun stops. Make the most out of your college experience but also stay focused on the future. College is going to get stressful you’re probably going to cry about classes more times than you can count but everything that you go through in college shapes you into the person your supposed to become. College is worth every obstacle you may go through.

Tip #9 Resources!

My ninth tip for surviving college is to get familiar and utilize the resources on your college campus. There are so many resources on your campus to make sure that you succeed as a student and to help you make the next step after college. Also, do not ever be afraid to use any of the resources offered to you because they are there for a reason and I guarantee you are not the only student utilizing them.
One resource that will help you tremendously is the tutoring center on your campus. Sometimes you have to pay to get tutored and at other colleges it is free. Do not ever think that you look dumb or weak for going to get help with a class. If anything, it shows that you are strong enough to realize that you are struggling, and you are putting in the work to better yourself.

Another resource on campus is career services. This resource is also very helpful. This is where you go if you need help writing a resume, looking for an internship, or even looking for a job when your about to graduate. This resource is more utilized when your about to make the next step after college. They will help you get prepared for the interview with your resume and they will help you find places to work.

Another resource is where you can take your computer when something goes wrong. Your computer is going to mess up at least 10 times during a semester (maybe exaggerated). However, college WIFI sucks and half the time your computer will not connect. Also, if you need any help with anything to do with your computer you can just take it to the computer tech place on your campus and they will fix it in no time.

Another resource on campus is counseling. This is another resource that you should never be ashamed of utilizing. Life happens during college and somethings we need someone to talk to who is not going to judge us or telling anybody. Yes, you could tell you best friend however, they could let it slip to someone else however a counselor is not allowed to share anything you tell them with anyone.
These are just some of the resources on campus to help you get through college. All the resources on campus are there for a reason. They are there to help you succeed, so use them while you can.

Tip #8 Pick a Major You Enjoy!

My eighth tip to survive college is to pick a major you enjoy Yes, money is great however, if you do not enjoy your career your going to be miserable for the rest of your life. In college it makes studying and doing your work so much easier when you enjoy what you’re learning about. Also, most majors require field hours, clinical hours, or internships.  Your career path is something that your going to do for the rest of your life so make sure you chose wisely.

Do not pick a major just because one of your friends is doing it. Yes, I understand that school is easier to go through with friends however, you still have them as a friend and if you chose that major just because they did you will not enjoy doing that career for the rest of your life. Also, do not talk yourself out of a career because you do not think you are smart enough or just because you do not think you can do it. You can do whatever you put your mind to. A lot of people change their major or chose a major different than from what they want to do because they do not think they are capable of doing it. However, you will never know until you find out.

If you pick a career path and you decide that you want to switch do it. Do not finish that major if that is not what you want to do for the rest of your life. Yes, I know that throwing away 1 or 2 years of college is hard because you chose a different major, but you will have wished you changed if you continue to study something you do not enjoy. I also realize college is a lot of money but you’re going to college to be able to make something of yourself and you want yourself to be happy.

Pick the major you want to study, not what anybody else wants you to pick. Also, if you think a major is to hard for you to succeed there are so many resources out there to help you succeed and so many people willing to help you. Anything is possible if you work hard enough at it. A major is a life long decision so if you do not know what you want to do right off the bat take your required classes and take time to think about it. Also, if you think you want to do more than one thing double major or even minor in things. College gives you so many options so take your time and decide when your ready.
